The sharpest thing WindMind holds is a list of places you care about — where you fly, where you sail, where you own something with a roof. This page says exactly what happens to that, in the order it matters.

Your saved locations are never sent to anyone

To get a forecast, WindMind needs to ask a weather provider about a coordinate. It does not ask about yours.

Every saved place is snapped to the centre of an 11 km grid square, and that square’s centre is what the provider sees — a rounded coordinate shared by everyone else in the same square, sent with no account identifier attached. The provider cannot tell which user asked, or whether any user asked at all.

This is not only a privacy measure; it is how the forecast is fetched once and shared. But the privacy consequence is real and deliberate.

One exception, stated plainly: when you first save a place, we look up its height above sea level, and that single request carries the exact coordinate — with no account identifier attached. It happens once, we keep only the height rounded to the nearest 100 m, and the coordinate itself is not stored by us anywhere but your own account. We do it because a mountain site treated as sea level gets a forecast that is several degrees and several knots wrong.

What we store

Email address, if you give one	To sign you in on another device. Optional — the app works without an account.
Device notification token	To deliver alerts. Retired automatically when Apple reports it dead.
Timezone and country	Quiet hours in your own time; the right store and units.
Subscription status	To know which plan you are on. Payment is handled by Apple; we never see your card.

What we do not do

No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
No selling or sharing of personal data. There is no third party that receives it.
No analytics event carries a coordinate.
No tracking across other apps or websites.
No location tracking in the background. The app asks for your position only to centre the map when you open it, and only if you allow it — you can refuse and still use every feature by dropping pins yourself.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app. Your locations, rules, alert history and device tokens are deleted immediately, not on a retention schedule.

The forecast cache is unaffected, because it holds no account information: it is keyed by geography, and an 11 km square does not belong to anyone.

Children

WindMind is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Where data is held

On Cloudflare’s infrastructure, with the database in Western Europe. Notifications are delivered through Apple’s push service, which necessarily sees the notification text and your device token at the moment of delivery.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected, or delete it outright — the last of which you can do yourself, in the app, without asking. Write to support@bmks.co.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, the app will say so before the change takes effect.
